Store-to-Store Community Relay Run

Saturday, May 23, 2026 — Saturday of Memorial Day weekend

Once a year, we connect the two Run Newport stores with an all-day community relay, passing a single baton from Newport to Providence. Jump in at any point along the route (~10 min/mile).

How it works

We move as a group on a pre-planned route at about 10 min/mile, with short stops roughly every 5 miles for water, bathrooms, and refuel.

  • Join/leave anywhere — hop in for the miles that fit your day.
  • Planned aid stops — community "mini stations" along the way.
  • Paced segments — a pacer keeps the pack on track and shepherds the baton.

What to expect

  • Sidewalks/shoulders, road crossings, mixed terrain.
  • Friendly, social, all-day vibe.

Participants are responsible for their own safety and must obey traffic laws.

Day-of timeline (target)

  • 8:00am — Depart Run Newport (Newport)
  • ~5:00pm — Arrive Run Newport (Providence)
  • After-party — Gansett

Full schedule with mile markers when final route segments are set.

FAQ

Do I have to run the full distance?

No! That's crazy! Join for any segment and leave when you're done. However, feel free to run all 45-ish miles if you're crazy.

Is this possible? Aren't there bridges?

Yes. For the river crossings we use the pedestrian paths on both the Sakonnet River Bridge and the Veterans Memorial Bridge, staying on sidewalks and separated from traffic.

Is this a race? Is there an entry fee?

No — it's a group run. No timing, no bibs, no entry fee.

How will I know where to join?

We'll publish a stop-by-stop schedule with approximate arrival times and join points when routes are finalized.

What should I bring?

At minimum: a bottle, fuel, phone, and weather-appropriate layers. More guidance closer to the event.
